Kontron Debuts OM6040 MicroTCA(TM) Compact System
The OM6040 system represents the most compact member of Kontron Open Modular Platforms for MicroTCA(TM) and provides an entry level solution for MicroTCA(TM) based systems. The system includes a chassis with AC power and fans, one MicroTCA(TM) Carrier Hub (MCH, the management module for system) and four AdvancedMC(TM) slots. Both PCI Express and Gigabit Ethernet are available on all AdvancedMC(TM) slots, SAS/SATA on slots 2 and 3. Hence, the system is well suited for entry level MicroTCA(TM) solutions. The system is available in two basic configurations with either Intel or PowerPC types of Multi-Core AMCs.
Among the areas of application are communication systems for access networks, switches for professional radio (Tetra, P.25), government, avionics and defence. The system may also be appropriate for multi-processor systems in industrial automation and medical which require PCI Express or Gigabit Ethernet.

A critical element for MicroTCA(TM) is the AdvancedMC(TM) backplane connector. The AdvancedMC(TM)s are connecting directly with the backplane connector via gold card edge pads. The HARTING „con:card+“ connectors are used in this system, as they provide the most reliable solution available on the market today, as well as the best mechanical accuracy. Due to several improvements over the conventional AdvancedMC(TM) connector,„con:card+“ increases the contact reliability significantly.
